Snowboarding is a sport that was born in the 70s with the Snurfer, but only in the 80s they start designing boards that are closer to the current form of snowboarding as we know it. The snowboard is built respecting some criteria and some terms that we want to describe so that you can better choose your equipment: the shape that is given to the board characterizes the same for the design criteria, for example if a board will have a shape unidirectional, that is with a clearly distinguishable tip and tail or if a board will be bidirectional then built symmetrically along the transverse axis with tip and tail identical to each other; the profile of the board instead characterizes the behavior of the board on the snow, for example, in the past all the boards had the lower central convex part which, consequently was higher than the tip and tail, this profile guaranteed the board an excellent grip optimal foil and performance. Later other profiles were developed such as the concave one, that is, contrary to the one just described, which guaranteed great handling but less grip and stability and the flat one where the edge, in the central part is always in contact with the snow and was often used in the parks. Over the years, the various companies have developed these profiles by modifying and "mixing" them with each other, creating hybrids to be suitable for more situations and, making the board more versatile and less demanding. Even the boots had a great development over the years, think that at the beginning they used boots very similar to those used for mountain excursions, literally tying them to the board, later, due to the distinction of the discipline in Hard and Soft, there were boots very similar to ski boots that were attached to the board by rigid plates mounted on monodirectional and asymmetrical boards (Hard) similar to a big ski while in the Soft category boots more similar to those of today were used with softer bindings mounted on mono and bi-directional boards which had very different and less performing characteristics than the asymmetrical ones. In addition to the different shape and structure (between Hard and Soft) the ways and movements to use one or the other variant were also very different. Today we could say that the Hard has almost disappeared from the slopes and only "Soft" boards with "Soft" equipment are used. Finally, the bindings are the interface that stick us to the board, without repeating what was written previously we can say that they are a very important category, often underestimated, which has had and has every year an important development in order to allow us to choose the right binding based on what we want to do and with different stiffness, comfort and practicality characteristics.
